to Education Success, Career and Workforce, and Juvenile Crime Prevention, approved by the Council

The Request for Applications process is now under development. The Youth Development Council on September 29 approved Positive Youth Development (PYD) as the framework to be used as the foundation for the Unified Systems Approach across all three YDC funding areas: School Engagement and Success; Career and Workforce Development; and Juvenile Crime Prevention. The basis for this approval was laid out in a Chair of the Research, Data and Evaluation Committee. also lays out the use of Positive Youth Development in the upcoming RFA process, including the implementation of PYD through Youth Program Quality Principles.

As the report states: “…Programs for youth at risk, such as those funded by the YDC, and utilizing a PYD approach, must adhere carefully to three areas critical to PYD program quality: 1) Youth Program Quality Principles, 2) trauma-informed approaches, and 3) developmental relationships. In addition, for programs working with tribes, or other culturally-centric populations, care must be taken to conduct programs within the culturally-relevant and tribal best-practices contexts…”

The YDC’s Research, Data, and Evaluation Committee will be meeting over the next few months to make additional refinements to the Request for Applications process before releasing it in early 2017.
